Mr Damian Bottaccio
Chisholm Day!
Though the weather dampened Chisholm Day, nothing was going to dampen the energy and joy that was on display! Chisholm Day lived up to past events and our students participated with great enthusiasm. The liturgy was a celebration of what we believe and value, listening to Caroline Chisholm's incredible wisdom and deeds. For me, the icing on the cake was to hear Mrs Robyn Pollock speak about her 28 years at Chisholm Catholic College - a lifetime commitment to our students and a lived example of our FAMILY values.
The House Spirit Cup honours went to Flynn House - well done to Mrs Antonia Conomos and the Flynn students. It was a close battle throughout the day with students partaking in the activities planned by the Pastoral Leaders and House Captains and Vice Captains. I was filled with great pride by the way in which students participated and led these activities. Notably, Parer House attempted to fundraise for charity through a 'Chocolate Toss'. I was blown away by the donations from students and families, which ultimately saw just over $500 raised.
Finally, a shout out to Mrs Sarah Briscoe who was instrumental in organising much of the event. Her dedication to our students and staff is greatly respected. Thanks also to Mrs Kristie Mackle and Mrs Jo-Anne Ibell for their leadership of the Liturgy. There are many other staff who made the day possible, and I extend my sincere gratitude on behalf of the Chisholm Catholic College community.
Year 10 Careers Day and Expo
Last Thursday, our Year 10s participated in the Careers Day and Expo. The Expo was open to other year levels to explore and discuss with the various tertiary and work placement organisations. The participation from the Years 10s was excellent. As always, a highlight for me was to hear how the students presented during the mock interviews; the feedback from community members who facilitated these interviews consistently affirmed what we know of our students - capable and confident.
The involvement of these community members is greatly valued, and I thank each of them for their time and commitment. I am also very appreciative of the many organisations who volunteered their time to showcase the many careers/pathways available to our students. The positive way in which presenters and stall convenors interacted with our students was a joy to witness. Even more pleasing was the strong presence of parents - your support of your child was tremendous. Special thanks to Ms Shannon Scott and Ms Mala Nair for the leadership of the day and Mrs Jenny Bell for her support.
School Officers Day
This Wednesday, we acknowledge the many staff who support our teachers and students, typically behind the scenes. School Officers Day is an important day on our calendar, noting the efforts of these wonderful people in our FAMILY. They have committed to working collaboratively in support of our students’ learning. Parents, I invite you to express your gratitude.
Why Attendance Matters: Everyday Counts
As we move through the school year, I want to highlight a crucial factor in your child’s success - regular school attendance. Recent Australian research underscores that consistent attendance is directly linked to academic achievement, particularly in high school where learning builds sequentially and absences can have a compounding effect. The School Attendance Web Resource Project by Deakin University found that students who miss even one day a fortnight can fall behind significantly, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. High school is a time of rapid development, and being present ensures students stay connected with their peers, teachers, and learning goals. How can you help?
- Establish routines: Consistent sleep and morning habits reduce stress and lateness.
- Talk about school: Show interest in their day and listen to concerns.
- Schedule wisely: Book appointments outside school hours where possible.
- Reach out: If your child is struggling, contact us early—we’re here to help.
Together, we can ensure every student has the best chance to thrive. Every day really does count.
God bless!
Damian Bottaccio
Understanding the BCE Complaints Procedure for Student Protection Non-compliance
At Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE), the safety and wellbeing of every student is paramount. To uphold this commitment, BCE has established a formal Complaints Procedure for Non-compliance with Student Protection Processes. This procedure provides a clear pathway for staff, parents, or community members to raise concerns if they believe BCE’s student protection processes have not been followed. Complaints can be submitted using the official BCE form and should be directed to the Head of People and Culture. While anonymous submissions are accepted, they must include enough detail to allow for appropriate follow-up.

Careers Day 2025: A Launchpad for Future Pathways
This week, Chisholm Catholic College proudly hosted its annual Year 10 Careers Day - an inspiring and action-packed event that brought together students, educators, and industry professionals to explore the many pathways available beyond school.
The day began with a warm welcome at the Chisholm Centre, where students were introduced to a dynamic program designed to build their confidence and career readiness. The morning sessions featured engaging presentations from the University of Southern Queensland, the Defence Force, and the Queensland Police Service, offering students a glimpse into diverse professional journeys and the skills required to succeed in each.
In the second session, students participated in mock job interviews and completed a virtual work experience module through Career Tools. These activities were not only practical but also empowering—many students reported feeling more confident about their future after receiving constructive feedback and experiencing real-world scenarios.
As Year 10 student Cooper Brindell shared,
“It was good to learn about different opportunities for our future.”
Fellow student Amaya Fox echoed this sentiment, saying,
“It helped me find different career pathways and help me find my future.”
The final session of the day focused on tertiary and vocational education, with representatives from TAFE and other institutions providing valuable insights into post-school options. The Careers Expo in the evening was a standout highlight, featuring a wide range of tertiary and industry exhibitors. Parents and carers had the opportunity to engage with staff and stallholders, ask questions, and attend presentations that demystified the Senior phase of learning.
The success of the day was made possible by the tireless efforts of many. Special thanks go to Shannon Scott and Mala Nair for their exceptional coordination, and to the STRETCH teachers, Academic Leaders, and support staff who ensured the event ran smoothly. From live music to subject displays, from sausage sizzles to student guides, every detail contributed to a vibrant and meaningful experience for our Year 10 cohort.
Careers Day is more than just an event—it’s a pivotal moment in our students’ educational journey. It marks the beginning of SET-Planning and subject selection for Senior studies, helping students make informed decisions about their future. As we reflect on the day’s success, we are reminded of the importance of community, preparation, and the belief that every student has the potential to thrive.

Celebrating 100 Days until Graduation and Attendance Challenge!
On Thursday morning, our Year 12 students gathered with staff to mark a major milestone in their final year of schooling — the “100 Days 'til Graduation” Breakfast. This special event was a joyful and reflective occasion, offering students and staff a chance to come together and celebrate the journey so far, and the exciting road ahead.
Held in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the breakfast was filled with laughter, shared memories, and a strong sense of community. It was a moment to pause and acknowledge the dedication, growth, and resilience our Year 12 cohort has shown throughout their schooling. Staff members joined in the celebration, sharing stories and encouragement as students prepare to enter their final stretch toward graduation.
Adding to the excitement of the morning, the College Principal announced a new attendance challenge designed to inspire commitment and consistency in the lead-up to graduation. Any Year 12 student who maintains 100% attendance from now until the end of the year will be rewarded with a $100 JB Hi-Fi gift card. This initiative not only recognises the importance of being present and engaged but also encourages students to finish strong.
The “100 Days 'til Graduation” Breakfast was more than just a meal — it was a celebration of how far our students have come and a reminder of the support that surrounds them as they approach the finish line. With just 100 days to go, the countdown is officially on, and we look forward to celebrating many more achievements with our Year 12s in the months ahead.

Winter Uniform Reminder
As we move into the colder months, we ask for the continued support of our parent community in maintaining the high uniform standards expected at the College. Wearing the correct uniform not only reflects pride in our school but also helps foster a sense of unity and belonging among students.
The College Uniform Policy includes several options to ensure students can stay warm while remaining in full uniform. These include approved winter items such as the College jumper, blazer, and long pants. Students are encouraged to make use of these options to stay comfortable during the school day.
We would also like to remind families that the old sports jacket with white stripes on the sleeves is not part of the formal winter uniform. This jacket is only to be worn on designated sport uniform days — Tuesdays and Thursdays. On all other days, students are expected to wear the correct formal uniform, including the appropriate outerwear.
We appreciate your support in helping students present themselves in a way that reflects the values and expectations of the College. If you have any questions about the winter uniform policy or need clarification on approved items, please visit the College public website for more information.

Celebrating Our Student Leaders at St Matthew’s Under 8’s Day!
We are incredibly proud of the outstanding efforts of our Student Representative Council (SRC) team and school leaders who represented our school with pride, joy, and creativity at St Matthew’s Under 8’s Day last week.
Invited by St Matthew’s to participate in this special community event, our students made the generous decision to forgo part of their own Chisholm Day celebrations to attend. Their willingness to serve others and put the needs of the broader community first is a powerful reflection of their character and leadership.
Throughout the day, our students demonstrated exemplary leadership and community spirit—helping younger children feel welcomed, included, and celebrated. From lending a helping hand wherever needed, their contributions truly reflected the values we strive to uphold as a school community.
A standout highlight was our amazing face painters – a vibrant, non-stop hub of fun and imagination! With incredible skill and creativity, our student leaders transformed dozens of happy faces into superheroes, animals, and magical characters. Their patience, artistic flair, and warm energy brought joy to everyone involved – adults and children alike!
We sincerely thank our SRC and school leaders for their service and for embodying the spirit of leadership, compassion, and joyful participation. You made a meaningful difference, and we are so proud of you!

Pathway News

Mrs Shannon Scott
The last two weeks have been filled with exciting opportunities for our students to explore career pathways, connect with industry professionals, and build their confidence in planning for life after school. Here's a snapshot of what's been happening in the Pathways space:
Year 10 Careers Day — Building Futures
Our Year 10 students recently participated in Careers Day, a key event designed to help them begin shaping their future pathways. The day included:
- A keynote on the changing world of work, encouraging students to be adaptable and future focused.
- Presentations from a wide range of trade, industry, and tertiary providers, offering valuable insights into career options and educational pathways.
- Mock interviews, where students put their resumes and interview skills to the test in real-world scenarios, receiving constructive feedback to support their growth.
We are incredibly proud of how our students engaged with the day and the level of professionalism they demonstrated.
Information sessions were also offered to Year 10 parents about the senior phase of learning, with a focus on the QCE, ATAR and supporting students to transition to their senior phase of learning. Presentation slides are available on the Parent Portal.
Year 12: Insights into Uni Life and Entry Pathways
On Thursday, we welcomed representatives from QUT and Australian Catholic University, who delivered valuable presentations to our Year 12 students about post-school pathway options, including early entry programs, alternate admission pathways, and university life. These sessions are an important part of our senior career development program, helping students make informed decisions as they prepare for QTAC applications, which open soon. It's essential that Year 12 students continue to engage in these opportunities to ensure they are well-prepared and confident about their next steps after graduation. We encourage parents and guardians to continue these conversations at home, helping students reflect on their interests, goals, and the best pathway for life after school.
Coming in 2027: QUT’s New Medical Program
QUT has recently announced an exciting development — a new undergraduate Medical program launching in 2027. This will offer an alternative direct-entry pathway into Medicine, based at the Kelvin Grove campus and supported by leading health and research institutions.
