    Welcome Back to Term 3

    We trust that all students enjoyed the break and are now ready to get back into their learning. With Semester Reports released last week, there is no better time than now to establish or reflect on goals - seeking to improve. For many students, the start to the new Semester can act as a reset and opportunity to be the best that they can be. We want to see all of our students experience success!

    The end of last term saw the College Athletics Carnival in all its colourful glory. It was truly wonderful to see our students participating across the many formal and informal events held on the day. I am very appreciative of our students' efforts, just as I am of our staff - they all came together to make it a very enjoyable day. 


    Scholars’ Assembly

    On Friday, 1st August, we will celebrate student effort from Semester 1 with the Scholars’ Assembly. We will recognise Excellence (top 5%), Merit (top 10%) and Diligence Awards, as well as Attendance. We have many students whose effort and engagement are truly deserving of this recognition. We should all be very proud of their achievements and encourage all students to aspire to be named at the College Awards Evening to be held later in the year.  

    Diligence Awards are based on students’ effort and application in class, not their result. It is very important that we acknowledge students who consistently work hard and endeavour to do their best with all that they do. This is a point of success that we want to see from all students.

    Parents are very welcome and invited to attend, with an invitation to awardees’ parents/carers being sent this week. We will also be live-streaming the Assembly – the link will be emailed on the day.

    Celebrating Catholic Education Week

    Each year, Catholic schools across Queensland celebrate Catholic Education Week. In 2025, the theme Communities of Faith, Hope and Love captures the essence of what it means to be part of a Catholic school community.  Faith ignites growth. Hope fuels support. Love welcomes all. Together, these pillars nurture students’ spirits, empower teachers, and embrace families, creating a vibrant learning community where everyone thrives.  Learn more about Catholic Education Week here.

    The theme comes from a verse in Corinthians 13:13 - "Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love."

    Guided by our charism, we focus on educating the whole child - nurturing academic potential and the spiritual, emotional, and social growth of every student. Our shared understanding of our values allows our staff, students and families to engage deeply with the school community. It is a time where we come together to celebrate what makes our school special. We are proud to work in partnership with our families to shape compassionate, thoughtful, and engaged individuals who make a difference in the world. Our students actively engage in service and social justice programs, making a positive impact both locally and globally. Currently, we are still seeking to support Vinnie's through the Winter Appeal. We also have students attending Rosie's Outreach and Infinite Care.

    The Scholars’ Assembly to recognise excellence from Semester 1 will be held on Friday, 1st August from 9am. Successful students and their families will receive an invitation this week.

    NAIDOC Celebration

    It was such a pleasure to welcome families and the community into our College last week to celebrate our third annual NAIDOC celebration. Guests were treated to a dance performance by four of our amazing First Nations students and heard the inspiring story of Professor Cindy Shannon, descendant of the Ngugi people from Moreton Bay, Emeritus Professor at University of Queensland and Member of the Order of Australia.  Each family received a copy of the picture book Our Home Our Heartbeat, and concluded the celebration with cake, afternoon tea and fellowship.  The theme this year, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, the achievements of the past as well as the hope offered by the future generations, as inspired by the legacy of the ancestors. A big thank you to Aunty Christine, Jo-Anne Ibell and our wonderful First Nations students for preparing such a lovely afternoon. Thank you to all our guests; you are always welcome at our school!  

    Year 11 Formation

    On Thursday last week, the Year 11s participated in a workshop held by Character Builders, aiming to develop the collective leadership capacity of our incoming seniors of 2026. Dance moves were shared, voices were heard, and servant leaders were formed. Thank you to Character Builders for their work with our students, and to the Year 11s for their participation.  We look forward to continuing the journey into servant leadership ahead of 2026.  

    Year 9 and 12 Leadership for 2026

    Applications are now open for formal leadership positions in Year 9 and 12, 2026. Our Year 8s and Year 11s are invited to express their interest by collecting a form from Student Reception and attending a workshop and Q&A with Mrs Campbell and Mrs Mackle on Wednesday, 23rd July during LB5.

    The St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal

    Thank you to those families who have donated items for our care packs as part of the 2025 St. Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal. Each house is invited to donate 3 items, which will be used to create emergency backpacks for those in need in our community.  It is not too late to donate, and we thank you for your generosity.

    Prayer and Community

    Table Talk:  What does it mean to serve? Christians are called to “love your neighbour as yourself” (Matthew 22:39), and this love can take on many forms – acts and words of kindness, support, compassion and service. This kind of generosity isn’t just reserved for our neighbour only, but for our community and those we encounter as a part of our everyday, especially those in positions of disadvantage. 

    To serve might evoke many different ideas, but a servant in the eyes of God is one who puts the needs of others before their own, acting with love, faithfulness, and obedience not for recognition, but because God is love.  Jesus was the perfect role model of this, living a life of selfless love and sacrifice.  

    A challenge: Look for an opportunity to serve a neighbour this week.  This could include: 

    • Prepare a homemade meal to share with others.  
    • Help out around the house, beyond the chores that are your own.  
    • Write a note of gratitude, thanks or encouragement.

    Set-Planning for 2026: Your Future, Your Choice! 

    Hola Year 10s and families — it’s that exciting time of year again! We’re gearing up for SET-Planning 2026, and we want to make sure you’re ready to take the next step in your learning journey with confidence, clarity, and maybe even a little bit of fun. 

    What’s a SET Plan Anyway? 

    A SET Plan (Senior Education and Training Plan) is your personalised roadmap for Years 11 and 12. It’s where you get to think about your goals, your interests, and where you want to go after school — whether that’s university, TAFE, an apprenticeship, or straight into the workforce. 

    Together with your parents and teachers, you’ll map out a course of study that suits your strengths and ambitions. It’s all about you and your future! 

    Subject Selection Online (SSO) Is Open! 

    You can now log in to Subject Selection Online to choose your subjects. Make sure to sit down with your parent or carer to go through the options and book your SET-Plan interview time. 

    SET-Plan Interviews will be held in the Chisholm Centre during Week 3 of Term 3 and Monday of Week 4. 

    Need help logging in? Just click “Reset Password” on the login page and follow the prompts. Remember — your login code is not your full email address! 

    Why It Matters 

    Your SET Plan helps you: 

    • Set and achieve learning goals 
    • Explore flexible pathways 
    • Make informed decisions about your future 
    • Communicate with your support team (that’s us!) 

    And remember — the subjects you choose now help shape your timetable, so choose wisely. Changing later can be tricky once the schedule is locked in.

    Building a Respectful Community 

    At Chisholm Catholic College, we believe that respectful relationships are the foundation of a thriving learning environment. This term, we are placing a strong focus on promoting positive behaviour, reducing disrespect, and addressing non-compliance through a whole-school approach grounded in Restorative Practices and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L).

    Respect is more than just good manners, it’s about how we treat one another, how we listen, and how we respond when things go wrong.     Applications Now Open for 2026 Student Leadership Positions!

    Term 3 – An important time for Year 12 Students 

    Term 3 is very important and busy for Year 12 students. Students are making decisions about their transition to tertiary study, training or work – the following is a selection of events and activities to assist with decision making: 

    QTAC Updates 

    QTAC Admissions for 2026 open on Tuesday 5 August and the Pathways team will commence meetings with all Year 12 students from that day to assist with preferencing strategies and all other aspects of the process, including Equity and Access (EAS). ATAR eligible students must register for the ATAR Portal (apply to have QTAC calculate your ATAR) using a personal email address, Learner Unique Identifier (LUI), Date of Birth and full name (as it appears on the QCAA/School record).  

    ATAR results will be released on Thursday 18 December 2025 via the ATAR portal at 9am. 

    Common ATAR Myths 

    Myth: Certain subjects like Physics increase a student’s ATAR 

    Reality: No – a student can only maximise their ATAR by performing well in all of their subjects 

    Myth: It is possible to game the system to get a high ATAR 

    Reality: The ATAR system is entirely data driven. ATAR is a rank, so if a student’s results place them in the top percentile, then they will get the top ATAR 

    Myth: My subject patterns can guarantee an ATAR of 99.95 

    Reality: As the ATAR is utterly data driven, a student’s results place them in the top percentile, and they will get the top ATAR regardless of the subjects they do 

    Myth: I am not ATAR eligible, so higher education is closed off to me 

    Reality: Some tertiary courses are accessible without a formal tertiary ranking like ATAR. There are also other pathways to tertiary study, including VET. Check with the Pathways team or institutions/universities you are interested in to see what pathway options are available. 

    QTAC Guide – these were distributed to Year 12 students on Thursday 17 July with an explanation about how to unpack the information within them. A digital copy is also available on the school’s portal page. This guide contains information about the application process and the courses students can apply for in 2026. Students are encouraged to keep this guide in a safe location as a point of reference after graduation when Year 12 results are released, and during QTAC offer rounds. It is advisable to also regularly check the QTAC website to access the most up to date information.  

    Scholarships: most university scholarship applications open in Term 3 and close through October – December. Each university has a scholarship section on its website and each scholarship has a different closing date. It is recommended students investigate the scholarship application process and due dates for institutions of interest to avoid missing out. An exception is Bond University, which has its scholarship applications open now.

    University Open Days – most university open days occur in Term 3. Open days provide an opportunity to learn more about the institutions and courses of interest. All senior students interested in tertiary study are encouraged to attend Open Days and be prepared with questions for the representatives. See dates, venues and times below: 

    University Updates: 

    Australian Catholic University (ACU) 

    ACU recently hosted a webinar about their Guarantee: early offers and student pathways. If you missed this and are interested in opportunities, visit Study at ACU. 

    ACU offers the Foundation Studies pathway for entry to students with no ATAR, or an ATAR lower than the course cut off. For more information visit Foundation Studies at ACU. 

    Griffith University 

    The following Courses have been approved for delivery at the commencement of 2026: 

    • Bachelor of Animation 
    • Bachelor of Game Design and Production 
    • Bachelor of Health Science – new majors are Data Management and Analytics; Health Communication; Pharmaceutical Science 
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) 

    Griffith’s Queensland Collage of Arts and Design Portfolio Admission Requirements: 

    Entry into Bachelor of Visual Arts, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Visual Arts/Bachelor of Business or the Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Business can be either through ATAR, a portfolio or a combination of both (recommended by Griffith). A portfolio is a collection of work that showcases a student’s skills, commitment and creative potential. If you wish to be considered via the portfolio pathway you must submit your portfolio by the closing date. Applicants who are not successful with their portfolio/interview will automatically be considered based on ATAR/Rank. Visit Admission Requirements for more portfolio information and to view Griffith’s on-demand webinar. Please note that Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art (CAIA) admission is via portfolio only. 

    Queensland University of Technology (QUT) 

    Students interested in study acting are invited to attend the QUT Acting Webinar at 5pm on Wednesday 23 July to learn more about the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Acting) including the application process, program highlights and tips for success. Visit QUT Applying for Bachelor of Creative Arts (Acting) to register.  

    QUT has introduced new or redesigned programs for 2026. These courses include: 

    • New Bachelor of Justice with majors in: 
      • Criminology and violence prevention 
      • Investigations and intelligence 
      • Policing, politics and social reform 
    • New Majors in Bachelor of Communication 
      • Promotional communication 
      • Screen studies 
    • New dance and education pathways at QUT 
      • Selecting dance as a second teaching area in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Creative Arts or 
      • Completing a dance minor in the Bachelor of Creative Arts, followed by the Master of Teaching (Secondary) 

     University of Queensland (UQ) 

    UQ are hosting an Engineering, Design and Computing Careers evening for students to discover the exciting careers available in these areas. The event is on Thursday 24 July from 5pm – 7pm. Register here! 

    Year 11 Opportunities 

    The University of Queensland are hosting the Young ChangeMakers Program and applications are now open. Year 11 students are invited to join UP for a 4 day program, to connect with other Young ChangeMakers, think critically and local and global issues and develop leadership and communication skills. The program includes: 

    • A 4-day (3 night) stay at UQ’s St Lucia campus 
    • Exploration of university life including interactive faculty workshops, keynotes and cultural, sporting and social activities 
    • A Young ChangeMakers reunion at UQ Open Day (2026)

    Student Spotlight: Ava Joins UQ’s InspireU Camp 

    “Over the school holidays, I had the opportunity to attend the InspireU Camp at the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus. The week-long program is designed for high-achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across Australia and focuses on preparing Year 12s for life at university.  

    Throughout the camp, we explored everything from university applications, scholarships and accommodation to leadership, student success, and degree pathways. We toured the UQ campus, met staff from various faculties, and engaged in workshops with the ATSIS (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies) unit. One of the most valuable aspects for me was being able to speak with staff from the medical faculty and gain specific advice about applying for Medicine at UQ (my top preference for study next year). 

    Beyond the academic focus, InspireU was also an amazing space to connect with like-minded students who share a passion for community and higher education. I came away from the experience feeling more confident, informed, and excited for the future. I feel incredibly grateful to have been selected for the camp out of hundreds of applicants, and it was an experience I’ll carry with me as I finish Year 12 and begin the next chapter.”

    During the school holidays, Grace engaged in a three-day work experience program with Logan City Council. She participated in meetings with Council Officers, discussing topics such as park upgrades, traffic improvements, local sporting clubs, and the Special Council Meeting focused on adopting the 25/26 budget. Grace toured local parks, gaining valuable insights into the planning, community engagement, construction, and opening phases of new developments. She approached a range of administrative tasks with enthusiasm and diligence, including scheduling meetings, recording minutes, responding to emails, researching resident concerns, and submitting maintenance requests. A particularly memorable moment occurred when Grace confidently led a meeting with the Council’s Legal Services Manager, which resulted in our City Solicitor offering her a potential future placement if she chooses to pursue a Bachelor of Laws. Grace made a strong and lasting impression during her work experience. We thank Logan City Council for providing such an enriching experience for our students.

    Link and Launch

    Link and Launch is based at local schools. They assist young people who have completed Year 12 but have not yet transitioned to further study, training or work. They can assist you to navigate a range of post-school study, training and work options in line with your goals, aspirations, skills and strengths and support you to make independent choices that will help you to make a successful transition. Some options young people may consider through the program include:

    Life skills are important!

    Life skills are talked about a lot but not often explained. ‘Life skills’ is a term used to describe a set of basic skills acquired through learning and/or direct life experience that enable you to effectively handle issues and problems commonly encountered in daily life. The following are some ways that could help you recognise and develop your own set of life skills:

    1. Building a Good Attitude: Stay positive, hungry, humble and do whatever it takes.
    2. Taking Initiative: If you’re willing to go first, others will see you as a leader.
    3. Capturing Vision: See the big picture and pursue something bigger than you.
    4. Communicating Effectively: Understand that if listeners don’t get it, you haven’t communicated well.
    5. Teamwork: To go faster, travel alone. To go further, learn to travel together.
    6. Creativity: Learn the art of combining two existing ideas to generate a new one.
    7. Grit: Resilience and work ethic can replace what you lack in talent or personality.
    8. Emotional Intelligence: To connect with others, understand yourself and them.
    9. Resourcefulness: Searching and finding new answers keeps you relevant.
    10. Critical Thinking: Seeing all sides of an issue enables you to act intelligently.
    11. Problem-solving: The best way to influence is to serve people and solve problems.
    12. Getting Over Yourself: The clearest sign of maturity is focusing on others.

    TAFE Queensland

    TAFE Applications open on Monday 21st July 2025 at 9am. To apply for the 2026 TAFE at schools programs, students will need to:

    Email offers will be sent to all students (and parent/guardians) in Term 4, and you are encouraged to accept by the deadline otherwise your place in the course may be offered to another student.

    Active Queenslanders Industry Alliance

    The school to work transitions program has been extended until 31 December 2025.

    The S2WT - Swim Teacher Program

    The S2WT - Swim Teacher Program offers a Swimming Teacher Skill Set (5 competencies) which will provide students the required accredited training to become a learn to swim teacher.  There is currently a critical skills shortage of swim teachers, so students who undertake the training and become competent are highly likely to find casual employment with a local swim school.  At this stage, there is only one course scheduled for August in Pimpama on 16 and 17 August 2025 AQIA, along with our partner RTO, Austswim, will schedule a couple more courses over the next few months and I will send these dates out once they are confirmed.  This program is open to students 16 year and older and is fully funded by the Queensland Government.

    SEDA News

    Mr Zac Dunfee-Scott

    From 29th June to 4th July, our talented QISSN team travelled to Bundaberg to compete in the 2025 Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball (QISSN) Carnival.

    The week began with some tough competition, with the girls narrowly losing several games by just a few points. However, their determination and mental resilience shone through as they regrouped and delivered an outstanding performance in the finals series.

    In the quarter-final, the team pulled off a thrilling 17-13 victory against Clairvaux MacKillop College, followed by an even tighter 19-17 win in the semi-final against Sunshine Coast Grammar School. This secured their place in the Division 4 grand final, where they faced Mt Alvernia College. Despite a valiant effort, the girls went down in the decider but proudly came away with the silver medal for second place in                                                                their division.

    We also congratulate our award winners:

    Coaches’ Player: Samantha Olsen

    Congratulations to all the players and coaches for their hard work, sportsmanship, and fantastic team spirit throughout the tournament. You have made our school incredibly proud!

    Starting Strong: Creativity Sparks in Week 1💃

    Over the weekend, our talented Chis Culture Dance Teams took to the stage at the DanceLife Unite Eisteddfod, held at All Hallow's School, delivering stunning performances in both the lyrical and jazz genres. With faith, grace, energy, and passion, our dancers showcased the dedication and artistry that define our Creative and Performing Arts community. We are thrilled to share that our Emeralds Dance Team placed 2nd in the Lyrical genre, and our Garnets Dance Team placed 4th in the Jazz genre. What great achievements! A big thank you to all the parents and teachers who have cheered them on along the way. Your support means the world. We look forward to more exciting performances in upcoming eisteddfods.

      🎨 Senior Visual Art Students Explore QAGOMA

      This week, our senior Visual Art students ventured to QAGOMA for an inspiring excursion that immersed them in contemporary and historical artworks. Surrounded by creativity and innovation, students had the opportunity to extend their own artistic expression and gather inspiration from a diverse range of artists and exhibitions. It was a powerful reminder of how art can challenge, connect, and ignite new ideas.

      🎟️ Senior Drama Excursion – ‘The Lovers’ at QPAC
      Senior Drama students will be heading to QPAC to experience The Lovers, a contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This excursion promises to be both entertaining and enriching - an excellent opportunity to see professional theatre in action.

      🎨 SECA Art Club Workshops
      Our SECA Art Club continues to offer inspiring workshops throughout this season. These sessions are a fantastic way to build skills, connect with fellow creatives, and explore new mediums.

      Mrs Yasmin Relja

      Author Spotlight: Rebecca Timmis – A past student at Chisholm Catholic College! 

      Rebecca Timmis is a talented Australian children's author, illustrator, web designer, and indie game developer based on the sunny Gold Coast in Queensland. With a passion for storytelling and creativity, Rebecca has written and illustrated over 13 books for children, blending adventure, heart, and humor into every page  

      Her most popular works include the  MerTales series—a vibrant, underwater adventure featuring four mermaid friends: Pearl, Coral, Shell, and Sandy. These characters are inspired by Rebecca and her own childhood best friends  

      The series has been a hit with young readers and even includes a video game and a bestselling box set! 

      Rebecca’s journey into publishing began with her self-published debut, David and the Heart of Aurasius, in 2010. Since then, she’s worked with traditional publishers like Allen & Unwin and has won awards, including a Golden Taco in the Laugh Out Loud category for her junior fiction book  Jawsome  

      Beyond writing, Rebecca loves visiting schools and festivals to inspire young readers and writers. She’s presented workshops at events like the CYA Conference and the Bellingen Writer’s Festival. 

      If you love magical adventures, ocean mysteries, and stories full of laughter, Rebecca Timmis is an author worth diving into!
