Mr Damian Bottaccio
Celebrating Excellence at the Scholars' Assembly
At our 2025 Scholars' Assembly, we gathered as a Chisholm Catholic College family to honour students whose academic excellence and unwavering diligence reflect the heart of our College values.
In my address, I took the opportunity to remind all of our students that true achievement lies not only in results but in their commitment to growth, resilience, and learning.
This year’s Catholic Education Week theme, “Communities of Faith, Hope & Love,” echoed through the celebration, affirming that success is nurtured in community. Drawing on the legacy of Dame Roma Mitchell, students were encouraged to pursue ambition with purpose and to overcome challenges with commitment.
I extend heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients. Your dedication uplifts our community and sets a powerful example for others. We also thank our dedicated staff, whose guidance and belief in every student’s potential make these achievements possible.
Together, we continue to grow in faith, hope, and excellence.
Every Day Matters!
At Chisholm Catholic College, we believe that every school day is an opportunity for growth, connection, and learning.
As Principal, I want to remind our families of the vital importance of regular and punctual attendance. Being at school on time and staying until the end of the day ensures that students receive the full benefit of their education academically, socially, and spiritually.
Leaving early or arriving late disrupts learning and can impact a student’s confidence, progress, and sense of belonging. We ask parents and carers to support us by scheduling appointments outside school hours and avoiding activities that interfere with attendance. Every lesson missed is a missed opportunity to grow.
Let us work together to prioritise school attendance. Your support helps us create a learning environment where every student can thrive. Together, we can ensure that our young people are present, engaged, and ready to make the most of every day.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education.
God bless,
Damian Bottaccio

Scholars’ Assembly
Last Friday we were able to gather as a community – as the Chisholm family - to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students in Semester One. Through perseverance, curiosity, and the pursuit of knowledge, these students have exemplified not only academic excellence and effort, but also the values that lie at the heart of our Catholic tradition and FAMILY values — integrity, compassion, ambition and a commitment to service.
Students were recognised for Attendance, Diligence, Academic Merit and Academic Excellence. With nearly 250 students being recognised and a similar number of parents/family attending, it was a wonderful celebration of the results from Semester One but also a celebration of the spirit of growth that is on show on Chisholm.
We now look forward to celebrating the continued excellence of our students at Awards' Night in November.
Student Led Conferences
Thank you to all the parents who took the opportunity to conference with the teachers about their student(s) last Tuesday. These afternoons/nights are a wonderful way of connecting students, parents and staff and it is always pleasing to see the conversations taking place that are there to help the students on their academic journey.

Catholic Education Week
Last week was Catholic Education Week, where we celebrated communities of Faith, Hope and Love. As a school, this saw us create our own pilgrimage in the Library, contemplate random acts of kindness as an expression of communities of love (spoiler: R4 are our friendliest PC!) and complete the installation of our labyrinth with a centre stone. A big thank you to everyone who supported our celebration, joined us in prayer on Friday and who help make Chisholm a FAMILY.
It is thought Caroline Chisholm said: "This is my principle and part of my creed, 'the good of the whole' is my pledge". May Chisholm always be a place where, guided by faith, hope and love, we all prosper.
Upcoming Events:
- 4th August: National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day.
- 8th August: Feast Day of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop
- 14th August: MacKillop House Liturgy LB1
- 15th August: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (holy day of obligation)
- 18th August: Rosies Outreach
Prayer and Community
Table Talk: Last week was Catholic Education Week, where we celebrated communities of Faith, Hope and Love. Community is an integral part of society, and we each have a role to play in its creation.
Following on from our conversations at school last week, ask your family:
- What does a community mean to you?
- What does your community provide for you?
- How do you try and give back to your community?

Celebrating the Success of Set-Planning: A Community Effort in Navigating Futures
As the school year reaches a pivotal moment, we are delighted to reflect on the recent successes of the SET-Planning process within the Chisholm community. The energy and excitement in the school have been palpable evidence of the meaningful engagement by our students as they take decisive steps toward their future careers.
This period of SET-Planning is always a time of great anticipation, as our students thoughtfully consider their academic pathways and align them with their aspirations. We have been continually impressed by their diligence, maturity, and willingness to prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Their ability to navigate this important process with such confidence speaks volumes about their readiness to embrace the world beyond the classroom.
We could not let this moment pass without extending our heartfelt thanks to all our students for the dedication they have shown. Your preparation, optimism, and openness to explore new possibilities have set a shining example for your peers and inspired those around you. You have truly brought a buzz to our learning community, and your enthusiasm for planning your next steps is contagious.
We would also like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our Pathways Team. Their commitment, expertise, and encouragement have been essential in guiding students through the complexities of SET-Planning and career exploration. From organising information sessions to providing tailored advice and support, the Pathways Team has ensured that every student can approach their decisions with clarity and confidence. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing hard work and dedication in this vital area.
As we move forward, we encourage all students and families to continue these important conversations at home. Your partnership remains crucial as we support our young people in mapping out their educational journeys and preparing them for the world of work.
Year 9 Mentoring and Academic Coaching
As part of our commitment to supporting students through the important process of subject selection and pathway planning, we are excited to announce that Year 9 students will participate in a dedicated mentoring and academic coaching session during Week 5, on Wednesday, 13th August. This session is purposefully designed to help students make informed decisions as they prepare to transition into Year 10 and beyond.
On this day, all Year 9 students will engage in coaching conversations that focus on clarifying their goals, exploring their interests, and understanding the new structure of Year 10 Specialisations. Guidance will be provided on how to approach the selection of subjects and pathways, ensuring each student feels confident and supported throughout the process.
Changes to Science and Humanities, and Maths Streaming
For 2026, there are important updates to the Year 10 Curriculum. In Science, every student must complete at least one Science specialisation across the year, with the option to tailor their learning through combinations such as Chemistry and Physics, Physics and Biology, or Biology and Chemistry. There is also a designated "Science in Practice" course for those not intending to pursue Science in Year 11.
In the Humanities, students are now required to select at least one semester-long subject from options including Geography, History, Accounting, Business, and Civics. This provides greater flexibility and allows students to align their studies with their personal interests and future aspirations.
Maths classes will be streamed according to students' academic results from Year 9, ensuring that learners are placed in an environment best suited to their current skill level and future goals.
Looking Ahead: Subject Handbook and Selection Process
To assist families and students in making thoughtful choices, the Subject Handbook for 2026 will be distributed next week. This comprehensive guide will detail all available subjects and specialisations, making it an essential resource as decisions are made.
In addition, the subject selection process will commence online from Wednesday, 13th August. Students will be able to log in, review subject offerings, and submit their preferences using our streamlined digital platform.
Preparation for Coaching
To ensure students are ready for their mentoring session, it is essential that they log into The Learning Dashboard prior to Wednesday and complete the goals and pathway questions. This pre-work will enable coaches to provide tailored advice and help students articulate their ambitions with clarity and confidence.
We encourage all Year 9 students to actively engage with these opportunities, ask questions, and seek support as needed. Together, we will continue to build the foundations for success in Year 10 and beyond.

Celebrating Connection: International Day of Friendship at Chisholm
Last Wednesday, 30th July, Chisholm Catholic College came alive with colour, creativity, and camaraderie as students gathered to celebrate the International Day of Friendship. This global observance, established by the United Nations, recognises the power of friendship in fostering peace, inclusion, and understanding across cultures and communities.
At Chisholm, the Student Support Committee led the charge with a vibrant lunchtime event held in the Library Classroom and Chisholm Centre. Students were invited to make friendship bracelets, a simple yet meaningful gesture symbolising connection and unity. The bracelet stations buzzed with laughter and teamwork as friends crafted keepsakes for one another.
Adding to the festive spirit was the Polaroid Photo Corner, where students captured joyful moments with their mates. These snapshots now serve as tangible memories of a day dedicated to celebrating the bonds that make our school community strong.
The Chisholm Library offered a tranquil space with music and conversation, allowing students to relax and enjoy each other’s company. The initiative aimed to promote a sense of belonging and reinforce the values of kindness and mutual respect that underpin our Student Support Framework.
As we reflect on the success of this celebration, we’re reminded that friendship isn’t just a personal bond—it’s a bridge to understanding, empathy, and community. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day so special.
Let’s continue to build a culture where every student feels seen, supported, and connected.

Mrs Shannon Scott
Pathways Update: A Future-Focused Fortnight
It has been a busy and purposeful time in the Pathways space as our students continue to explore and plan for their futures.
We were very proud of our Year 10 students with the way they represented themselves and our College at the recent Logan City Council Ignite Careers Expo. This timely event gave students the opportunity to connect with a wide range of trade, industry and tertiary providers. Many students shared that the expo was particularly helpful as they finalised decisions for their Senior Education and Training (SET) Plans, gaining valuable insights into career pathways, skills, courses, and prerequisite requirements.

This week has seen a strong focus on Year 10 SET Planning, with students thoughtfully mapping their senior subject selections and career goals. We would like to thank all students and parents/carers for their time, engagement, and the meaningful conversations that have taken place throughout this process.
Year 10 students are also progressing steadily through their Certificate I in Workplace Skills, having completed Project 2 this week. They will begin the third and final project next week during their STRETCH sessions and we look forward to awarding them with their Certificate I Workplace Skills and two QCE credits upon completion.
For our Year 12 students, QTAC applications officially open this Tuesday, 5 August. Students can now book their individual QTAC appointment via the Career Tools platform on the Chisholm Careers website (accessible via the school portal page). Please note, the Pathways Team will be available for bookings all day on Thursday, 7 August in lieu of SECA, and we encourage students to take advantage of this time to ensure their applications are submitted confidently and accurately.
Finally, Year 11 tracking meetings have now concluded. Students are working diligently towards success in Unit 2, with a renewed focus on their goals and study habits. Parents and carers are encouraged to view a transcript of their child’s tracking meeting via the BCE Connect app, under the Learning Dashboard > Student Goals tab.
As always, we thank our students and families for their ongoing support and partnership as we guide students through their senior pathways and post-school planning.

A huge congratulations to our talented students who performed Alice in Wonderland at the Beenleigh One Act Play Festival on Friday night. Their imaginative interpretation and commitment to character brought a high level of energy and creativity to the stage. The energy in the sold-out theatre was vibrant and buzzing - a massive thank you to all the family and friends who came along to support the cast members! A special thank you to Ms. Kelsey Pigram, Mr. Patrick Lockyer and Ms. Teagan Griffey for their time and support with directing, organising, coaching and preparing the students for their performance - none of this would have been possible without your hard work and dedication - we can't wait to see what comes next!

💃 Dance Teams Shine at QUOTA Beenleigh Eisteddfod
Our College Dance Teams were back on the stage last Friday at the QUOTA Beenleigh Eisteddfod. It was an amazing opportunity to perform in front of other high-school dance teams and share in the vibrant energy of the day. Once again, we are blown away with our dancers precision and passion, it is was a sensational day and whilst we may not have placed, we are fired and up and ready for our next Eisteddfod in Week 5 - see you soon!

Book Week 2025: Celebrating Stories, Characters & Creativity!
Get ready to dive into the world of imagination and storytelling as we celebrate Book Week 2025! (Week 6 - 18th to 22nd August) This year’s theme is all about embracing the joy of reading, exploring new worlds, and celebrating the characters that inspire us.
We’ve got a fantastic lineup of activities planned throughout the week to engage students from all year levels. Here's what’s happening:
Kick off the week on Monday with a thrilling Escape Room experience designed especially for Years 7 to 9. Work in teams to solve puzzles, unlock clues, and escape the literary labyrinth!
Senior students will get their turn to test their wits in a specially tailored Escape Room on Wednesday. Will you be able to crack the code and escape in time?
On Friday, students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character! Whether you're a wizard from Hogwarts, a hero from a dystopian adventure, or a creature from a fantasy realm, we can't wait to see your creativity shine. Prizes will be awarded for the most imaginative costumes!
Where’s the wildest place you’ve ever read a book? Whether it’s up a tree, on a kayak, or in a hammock, snap a photo of yourself reading in the most extreme or unusual location and enter our photo competition. Winners will receive a special prize!
Stay tuned for additional activities and surprises throughout the week. Keep an eye on the daily announcements and your year-level coordinators for updates.
